9 TIPS TO MEMORIZE A SCRIPT 📜

Memorizing a script is not an easy task. Nobody is a natural-born memorization genius. So, don't be too hard on yourself if you're not gifted in this area.

We understand that some tasks require you to read a script provided by the brand. So, we thought we'd give you some pointers.

*read through the whole thing, the best and easiest tip is tip #9*

✹ TIP # 1: BREATHE.

To memorize, you need brain power. If your brain isn't getting enough oxygen, it might feel impossible to remember things. So, let's get some oxygen into our bodies by taking long, deep breaths. This will also help you relax and let go of any stress.

That way, you'll be in better energy and mood to tackle your script.

✹ TIP # 2: WRITE THEM OUT.

Write down your script. This helps your mind connect with what is written. This is also referred to as muscle memory. It is easier to remember something if you write it down.

✹ TIP # 3: RECORD YOURSELF.

Record yourself reading the lines, then play the recording repeatedly. This will help you become familiar with the words as well as better understand the context of your script.

✹ TIP # 4: SING YOUR SCRIPT.

Have you ever noticed how much easier it is for us to remember the lyrics to songs? When words are set to music, our brain can quickly memorize them. You could sing your script. Just remember to switch to speaking mode when recording your video.

✹ TIP # 5: SPEAK OUT LOUD.

It's more difficult to remember something when it's just running through your head. It's similar to how when we have negative thoughts and let them stew in our heads for too long, we tend to go in circles.

Read the script out loud. First, listen to the words. Focus on pausing between each line, digesting what's being said, and playing with intention, actions, and pacing. Repeat five times more, breaking your lines into thoughts each time. Eventually try saying it without looking at the script.

✹ TIP # 6: UNDERSTAND YOUR SCRIPT.

Understand the purpose of this script. What is the brand's goal, and what are you attempting to convey to the viewer? This will allow you to better absorb the words as you understand them from the heart.

✹ TIP # 7: VISUALISE YOUR SCRIPT.

Imagine the script as a story when you say the words. Paint a picture in your mind, and you'll be able to remember it better. You can connect the lines to characters, scenarios, and stories.

✹ TIP # 8: PRACTICE WITH SOMEONE.

Running lines with someone else makes you accountable. Allow them to provide feedback.

You can also pretend you're talking to the brand's target audience or just how you would talk to a friend, so that the result is natural and genuine.

If you don’t have anyone to practice with, that’s okay, you can pretend the wall is your friend. 😄

✹ TIP # 9: USE A TELEPROMPTER APP

No, you don't need that big machine up there. There are free apps and websites you can use.

This is probably the best and easiest choice because you can record your video while simultaneously reading the script, so you don't have to learn it all by heart. *ehem, best for the lazy memorizers out there 😉
